Trying to be the best employee I can be, I attempted to get some work done on my vacation. I had to take a picture because I am just silly that way, plus this was an AWESOME cup of coffee.
Now that work is done I can officially begin my vacation. It was a peaceful and traffic free journey this morning to Delaware, and if you don't know, I love my journeys, my men, and my life DRAMA FREE, so we're off to a good start. I was listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show (as I always do in the mornings) and this morning was quite inspirational.
I make no efforts to hide that I am a Christian, so what he said this morning truly touched me and started my day off right. I normally only catch the latter half of his show in the mornings where there's a whole lot of cutting up and tom foolery (Nephew Tommy's Pranks, Junior's Tips, and Steve's reaction to the Strawberry letter) but today I caught the show EARLY.
When I say early, I mean at the start of the show. Today he spoke to how your day can be going right and then something will come along and throw a wrench into things. He talked about how one will just be trucking along and having a good day and all of a sudden somebody will throw some drama your way. He basically said don't let that negativity stop you from being thankful for the things that are going right, the Lord wants you to be happy, The Devil seeks to undermine your confidence in the goodness of the Lord (of course I'm putting some of this into my own words but the message hasn't changed).
Now I know for some of you reading, you have to be thinking (if I haven't lost you already), this fool is a bible thumping lunatic. On the contrary, no, I'm not. Believe me when I say that is not what I am getting at here. I am really trying to convey a message that touched me but it can be interpreted in any way you like, Christian, Spiritual, Atheist, Scientist, etc. All that needs to be gleaned from the message is, don't sweat that small BS, don't let the negativity ruin the good things that are going on in your life no matter how small. To quote my mama, "Don't let one monkey stop your show."
Alright, so your car may not have started this morning, but be thankful you have the means to get it repaired, the means to catch a bus, the means to walk to whatever destination you were attempting to get to. Why? Think about it. This morning someone else didn't have that car you're complaining about, they don't have any of the money your about to spend on transportation, and even more, some didn't even have the use of their legs that your using to convey yourself forward(including some of our nation's Veterans). Perspective ladies and gentlemen.
Don't sweat whatever has gone wrong because it is always darkest before the sun shines. As I once said (yes I'm about to quote myself and in no means is this narcissistic), you are so focused on the bareness of the valley you currently stand in that you don't even look towards the beautiful sunrise over the hill that leads you to a land of blessings. BAM!
I will leave you with a prime example from my own life and then I will begin my vacation and you can take it as you will. It was winter and a blizzard had just hit so I took my child to go sledding (this is back when all that snow hit DC back in 2009/2010). We had a GREAT and fun time, and when it was time to leave I got him settled into his car seat then sat my behind in the driver seat. It was at this time I noticed that my windshield was cracked all the way across. Some folks are thinking, Damn, that sucks. Some would have been cursing and wondering why this would happened what goodness knows they cant afford a repair at this time. What did I do? Well...I laughed, and said dang that's a big crack! I dont really know why I laughed but it certainly felt better than the alternative. The next thing I knew I got a book for free and a subsequent accident that happened on the way to get the windshield repaired that allowed me to get other things that needed fixing on my car fixed. The point here is if you take the positive stance, let go of the drama of the situation, the plan that was in store for you gets better than your current state.
Okay I'm done, on to my vacation, and have a great day!
